Do You Crave A Softer Life?

I recently attended a two-day event that confirmed for me something I’ve been suspecting for a while: I’m not the only one craving a simpler life. And while I’ve fully embraced that idea and gotten super intentional with how I spend my time and worked hard to understand my priorities and then treat them as such, there’s always more I can do. Which seems a little backwards, doesn’t it? The idea that living a simpler life, a softer life as some of the speakers from the event called it, may require me to do more.

But what I now realize and what I want to share with you today, is that more doesn’t always refer to quantity. At least not in the way one would typically think about quantity and simply layering additional things to do on top of what you already do. Rather, this idea of doing more refers to the quality, the intentionality, and the purpose of what you do. More requires taking a step back to see a clearer, sometimes different perspective of what you’ve created and chosen for your way of living and then making decisions around how you truly want to proceed.

You can give yourself an opportunity to take a step back and find some clarity by asking yourself these questions:

What all is on your plate?

Which items are most important to you?

Why are they important?

Which items aren’t important to you?

Why do you show up for those things?

How much energy are you expending (mental energy counts!!) to manage things that don’t hold importance to you?

How could you shift your energy to focus more on the things on your plate that are priorities for you?

Is there anything you are doing now that when you take a step back, you realize that you could do differently and it might lead you to a different outcome?

These can be tough questions to answer, and they are only the tip of the iceberg, but they can serve as a good jumping off point to get you thinking and to help you establish your priorities if that’s something you have struggled with.

In terms of organization, I believe that you’re here because you have a desire to be better organized in some way. You see the potential that exists, the connection that exists, between organization, and living simply. And you have a desire to live more simply and softly, which means you want to live in a way that feels good and feels right to you.

But you aren’t sure how to get there.

How do you connect the dots? How can you connect your desire to live more simply with your priorities AND get better organized at the same time? I mean, that’s a lot, right? That can feel like the wrong kind of more pulling you in too many directions.

But what I can promise you is that when you take that step back, and you look for that new perspective, it will become clear how working towards better organization in your life will support your vision of more. Being and living intentionally around how your spaces (both physical and mental) are organized will create a foundation for moving forward living a softer life.

I am so honored that you include this blog as part of your journey to getting and staying organized. And I am dedicated to guiding you to see the potential for yourself AND create that organized life that will serve as the foundation of your dream to live softly.
